In the first six months of 2021, the state budget collected 39 billion Albanian Lek more from the same period last year.

It appears that the Albanian economy is turning the page from the 2020 pandemic crises when referring to data from January to June.

The fiscal tables of the Ministry of Finance evidenced that revenue grew by 234 billion Albanian Lek, with the main contributors were custom and tax revenues.

On the other hand, government expenditures in the first half of the year were 263 billion Albanian Lek or 30 billion more than last year.

Pension index adjustments, wage raises for health care and education staff, as well as investment, were the lead factors that contributed to more expenditures from the state.

But, in 2020, the financial damage caused by abusive tenders was estimated at €5 million.

Based on an audit report compiled by the Finance Ministry, the Public Procurement System is among the most problematic, responsible for one-half of the financial damage to public institutions.

Meanwhile, the report shows that the general economic damage totals €10 million.

The other sectors that contributed the most to the economic losses were abuses in taxations and custom system (€3.9 million), followed by wages, compensations, concessions, and property administration.
