After more than two months, Albania is seeing a sharp rise in daily COVID-19 new cases. Over the last 24 hours, authorities confirm that 43 citizens tested positive to the virus, the highest figure recorded since mid-May.

Currently, there are an estimated 198 active cases throughout the country however, hospitalizations remain under control as only 6 patients are receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

Albania has not recorded any COVID-19 related fatalities since June 26, while the death toll is 2,456, according to a tally kept by national health authorities.

A rise in new infections comes at a time when Europe has been grasped by the new and potentially more infectious strain firstly discovered in India, labeled as Delta, although health authorities have not confirmed its presence in Albania, yet.

The Ministry of Health appealed to citizens to get vaccinated in order to get immunized from the virus, while authorities have launched a massive vaccination campaign for every citizen over the age of 18.
