During an interview for Euronews Albania, the Albanian deputy minister of defense, Petro Koçi, raised allegations that the underworld is profiting from public tenders in the county of Fier.

His declaration prompted SPAK to summon Koçi to provide evidence over his claims.

Koci, who has also been voted as an MP of the Socialist Party for Fier, raised allegations that the underworld has solidified throughout the years, and it has turned towards the construction industry in order to legitimize wealth stocked from illicit activities.

Although the deputy minister did not point out specific names, he stressed “it is known which subjects are tied to individuals of the criminal world that are profiting from public tenders”.

During the interview, Koci also praised the work of SPAK as yielding some positive effects on the people’s trust, while calling on law enforcement agencies to not allow organized crime to cripple the city of Fier.

The allegations came 10 days after SPAK arrested the mayor of Lushnja, a city nearby Fier, after the former had abused with public tenders.
