President Ilir Meta has decreed the appointment of Artur Kalaja as one of the new judges at the High Court.
Kalaja was one of the three candidates that displayed a high ethical and professional integrity during the procedure rolled by the High Judicial Council.
The other two candidates were Asim Vokshi and Gent Medja. The High Judicial Council proposed Kalaja in the civil justice department.
Following this development, the High Court now has 8 judges, out of 19 that it needs to have.
In a statement released to the press, President Meta encouraged the High Judicial Council to pursue the procedures without further delay in order to make the court fully functional.
Kalaja has been in the justice system since 2000, initially as a judge at the Court of Elbasan, and then in 2006 near Tirana’s Court of Appeal.
