Albania launches open vaccination month, amid rising infections

Over the last 24 hours, 40 citizens tested positive to COVID-19, bringing the total number of active infections across the country to 421.

The number of patients hospitalized has also doubled in the past week, with 24 citizens under medical care, although authorities confirm that none of them are in intensive care.

So far, the country of 2.8 million has registered 133,121 coronavirus cases, of which over 130,000 have recovered. The death toll, according to a tally kept by the health ministry, is estimated at 2,457.

Also, the health ministry announced August as an open vaccination month, in order to tackle the rising figures and avoid overburdening hospitals.

According to Our World in Data, 23,13% of the population has received at least one vaccine dose.
