Health authorities have raised the alarm after 221 tested positive to COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Kosovo has seen a considerable rise in its single daily cases, while the number of active cases in the country has reached 888.

The virus has claimed the lives of 2,268 citizens, with one more death reported over the past day.

In comparison to other countries in the region, Kosovo was the last to begin an inoculation campaign as it mainly relied on EU’s COVAX mechanism, unlike its neighbor countries that gave the green light to Chinese and Russian producers.

According to a tally from health authorities, at least 162,000 citizens have received both vaccine doses.
