Balkan Barometer reveals most corrupted institutions in latest survey

68% of citizens in the Western Balkans think that laws are not implemented in an efficient manner, according to the annual survey “Balkan Barometer”.

The Parliament and courts are the least trusted institutions in the Western Balkans with 61% of citizens declaring that they do not trust them.

The level of distrust in regards to their government was also high, as 57% responded negatively. Around 50% also said that they do not trust auditing institutions.

Corruption remains one of the main issues in the Western Balkans, as seen by the perception of the citizens when asked about public administrations and various services.

78% said that political parties are corrupted and 76% shared the same opinion when asked about the legal system, while another 75% said that the customs are seized by corruption.

For 74% this problem is also seen in public health care. 71% of the respondents referred to the parliament as “a corrupted institution”.

Balkan Barometer is an annual survey on public opinion ordered by the Regional Cooperation Council in an assessment of the socio-economic, regional, and European integration of the six Western Balkan countries.
