Fifty-one heads from different sections of the Democratic Women’s League in Korça resigned on Monday.
Through a press statement, they said that they took the decision in solidarity with the resignation of the members of the Presidency of the Democratic Party of Korça two weeks ago.
Emphasizing that from today “they will be ordinary members” they said are stepping down from their post as a result of the wrong direction taken by the DP by the chairman Lulzim Basha.
“With his actions, we think that Mr. Basha has rejected all our efforts and sacrifices in the most difficult opposition in the history of the Democratic Party,” said in a press statement Leonard Trebicka, a former member of the leadership of the Democratic Party branch in Korça.”
They accused Basha of turning the DP “into a clientelist party in the service of personal interests.”
The same argument against Basha was used two weeks ago by 15 leaders of the Korça DP who resigned.
Among them was the member of the National Council of the Democratic Party, Andrea Mano, and the secretary of the Democratic Party in the Korça region, Devis Osmani.
In the April 25 parliamentary elections, the DP won 5 of the 11 seats in the Korça region, a result that was called satisfactory by internal analysis, but which in recent weeks has highlighted dissatisfaction among local leaders.
Andrea Mano (5,465 votes) did not win the mandate of MP, although he received more votes than Sorina Koti (1,618 votes) as she was listed 7th in the PD list.
The PD list for Korça was headed by Edmond Spaho (5,921 votes), while after Koti came Ervin Salianji (9,420 votes), Bledjon Nallbati (7,412 votes), and Seladin Jakupllari (7,342 votes).
