The government of Kosovo has ratified an international agreement worth €15 million which will enable authorities to purchase COVID-19 vaccines.

The development was confirmed by finance minister Hekuran Murati following a government meeting.

At the time he took office, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that Kosovo will carefully select the type of jabs it will use on its population, implying that it will not opt for Russian nor Chinese produced vaccines.

In recent weeks, Kosovo has seen a sharp rise in new infections with 562 citizens testing positive on Tuesday.

According to Our World in Data, 17.8% of the population has received at least one dose, while 9.1% are fully vaccinated.
