Around 250 political emigrants from Afghanistan will be arriving in Albania within the week.

Diplomatic sources confirmed for Euronews Albania that the first group of Afghans coming to Albania are translators and collaborators from various levels of the American structures within Afghanistan.

Sources say that they will be accompanied by their close relatives and families. A minister of Rama’s cabinet will be in charge of their accommodation and housing in our country.

Meanwhile, there are still no details regarding where they will be staying or how they will be transferred from the moment they set foot at the Rinas airport.

Yesterday, the Albanian government confirmed their positive response toward the request made by the US government. It was PM Edi Rama that explained how the situation will be handled, adding that we are currently expecting hundreds of Afghans to come to Albania, mainly from intellectual circles as well as women activists.

In addition, earlier today, MFA Olta Xhacka confirmed through a post on Twitter that Albania is prepared to expect a few hundred Afghans, by “guaranteeing their safety and well-being”.

Apart from Albania, the other countries that have offered to house Afghan emigrants are Kosovo, North Macedonia and Canada.
