The first group of Afghan citizens that will be temporarily sheltered in Albania before heading to their final destination in the US, is expected to arrive at the Rinas airport within 24 hours.
Sourced close to Euronews Albania say that the first plane will be landing at Rinas airport carrying around 300 Afghan citizens.
They will be provided housing at Tirana’s University Student Dorms as well as several hotels in the city of Durres.
The first Afghan citizens arriving to Albania are said to be collaborators of the US and NATO ally forces, whose lives are at risk after the Taliban came back to power in Afghanistan.
The majority are translators and collaborators of various other levels of the American structures in Afghanistan.
The other countries that have accepted to take in refugees apart from Albania are Kosovo, North Macedonia and Canada.
