The Kosovo government has just announced their decision to temporarily shelter Afghan citizens and their families, who are fleeing their country out of fear from the Taliban regime, seeing that they have worked as collaborators to the US and NATO forces.
The decision of the Kosovo government was announced by the minister of foreign affairs, Xhelal Sveçla.
Sveçla stated that Kosovo will make an effort in order to offer its help by respecting all the principles of international human rights for persons whose lives are at risk.
This decision was also commended by the leader of the opposition party LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku.
Through a post on Facebook, he called this decision “just and necessary”.
Albania and North Macedonia have also come out with statements that they are willing to receive and temporarily shelter Afghan political emigrants.
At the moment, there are several Kosovar citizens currently stranded in Afghanistan, around 100 citizens from North Macedonia and one from Albania.
