US ambassador, Yuri Kim stated earlier today that the number of Afghan migrants coming to our country is still unknown.

In a statement for the press after her meeting with the defense minister, Olta Xhacka, during which the matter of Afghan emigrants was discussed in detail, Kim said that the situation is dynamic and changes rapidly, which is why the number is not yet known.

However, the US ambassador emphasized that the Afghan citizens will only be staying in Albania temporarily, as their final destination will be the US.

Kim also added that the US is working closely with the Albanian government in managing the current situation on a step-by-step basis.

The US ambassador expressed her gratitude to Albanian citizens, saying that the recognition that Albanians have shown towards these refugees, seeing that they too have been in the same shoes once, is a deeply moving act.
