The State Intelligence Service (SIS) has noticed that several groups with terrorist tendencies are radicalizing Albanians through the internet.

A report published by SIS in 2020 says that some individuals are sharing propaganda materials in social networks to recruit Albanian supporters in the region, precisely for terrorist purposes.

Videos with threatening messages from Albanians joining conflict zones in the Middle East became viral on the net, however it seems that such acts have not come to an end with the purpose of recruiting more people.

“Albanian is highly used in online web pages in terms of propaganda materials. Propaganda in the Albanian language, regardless of where and by whom they are produced, aims the Albanian-speaking audience,” the report further writes.

The Intelligence Service says that radicalization continues in prisons even, mainly by those convicted of terrorism. For this reason, the report suggests their isolation under a strict regime known as “41-bis”.

“Citizens convicted of terrorist, together with their supporters in prison, have continued to maintain a radical profile with a tendency to radicalize others,” SIS emphasizes.

“Citizens convicted of terrorism and their supporters in the prison system have continued to maintain a radical profile and with a tendency to radicalize others,” it said.
