A group of 31 Macedonian citizens that used to be employed in Afghanistan have now returned to their home countries. They have given their personal impressions on the hardships and chaos currently present in Kabul, despite adding that they have never felt at risk.
In addition, dozens of other Macedonian citizens are expected to arrive in the upcoming days, who have now been evacuated from Afghanistan and are in transit in places like Qatar or Turkey.
Mehmed Rexhepi is one of the evacuees from Afghanistan, who says that he feels lucky that the ambassador to North Macedonia in Qatar, Shaban Jashari, has reacted in time and retrieved him from Kabul, which also meant that he never once felt that his life was in danger.
Another citizen, Gazmend Arifi stated that he has been a witness of many dramatic scenes in Kabul, – something, which he admitted to have gotten used to by now, being that he has been living and working there for several years.
A few days ago, another 7 citizens of North Macedonia returned from Afghanistan, after a short stay in England. Other arrivals are expected to be evacuated and return home safely within the next week.
