This Sunday marked the culminating point of the Bektashi order pilgrimage to the Mountain of Tomor. Thousands of believers joined the pilgrimage and ‘sacred festivities’ that began on August 18th and will continue through to August 25th.

Each year, around 300-400 thousand pilgrims go up to the Kulmak Tekke, coming from all over Albania and abroad.

Yesterday, the international religious leader of the Bektashi sect, also known as Baba Edmond Brahimaj, gave a statement extending his wishes to everyone around the world, praying that soon we will all see an end to the pandemic, while lastly wishing all Bektashi believers for peace and love for one another.

Believers usually put up their tents at the Kulmak Tekke, which they consider to be a sacred place, and during the course of several days they conduct several rituals and prayers, including sacrificing a lamb to then share as a meal with their families.

The Mountain of Tomorr is located 2.416 m above sea level, and is to be climbed on foot by all pilgrims.

Long lines of traffic have been a problem for the past several days, as police officers are trying to keep the situation under control, while checking that the anti-COVID measures are being respected.
