Yesterday night, the first plane carrying Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban regime landed in Kosovo.
They arrived in the capital, Prishtina through a plane belonging to the US Air Forces. The afghan citizens are expected to stay in Kosovo temporarily before heading to their final destination, the United States.
Euronews Albania’s correspondent, Kosove Gjoci reported that the highest public officials in Kosovo were present at the airport in order to welcome the first group of refugees coming into the country.
At the moment, there is no official version in terms of the exact number of Afghan citizens that have arrived to Kosovo, but other groups are expected to arrive in the days to come.
The decision guaranteeing temporary shelter and accommodation to Afghan refugees has been ratified by the government of Kosovo, and based on the information available thus far, a total of 2,000 emigrants are expected to arrive in Kosovo in the days to come.
