The first group of Afghan refugees arrived in Skopje on Monday night and were welcomed by several high-government representatives.
149 Afghans will be accommodated close to the airport of Skopje, where they will undergo checks and procedures before heading to their final destination, the United States.
Local authorities have reported that it is estimated that the refugees will be staying in North Macedonia for around 90 days, before travelling to the US.
The first group arriving in Skopje last night was made up of NGO employees and their family members.
The Macedonian government has also declared earlier that their preliminary accommodating capacities would allow for a total of 780 citizens to be sheltered in the country, but the exact number of Afghans coming in to North Macedonia is still unknown.
