Albania recorded 1,054 new cases on Tuesday, the highest figure recorded since February 24. Another 3 citizens died from the virus over the past 24 hours, taking the official death toll to 2,498.

August has seen a progressive rise in new coronavirus cases, although fatalities remain low.

More than 133,800 citizens have won the battle against the virus from the beginning of the pandemic; however, the country still has over 10,000 active cases.

96 patients are receiving medical treatment at the Infective Diseases Hospital in Tirana, of which 18 are in a more serious condition.

The Ministry of Health has continuously appealed to citizens to get the COVID-19 shot in order to halt the spread of the virus and diminish the chances of getting severely ill.

Authorities have decided to extend the open vaccination month to September as students look ahead to a new academic year, urging all students and university professors to get the jab.

As of August 29, at least 21.78% of the population has been fully vaccinated.
