For the third year in a row, the capital city is hosting the arts festival titled MurAL Fest, where Albanian and foreign artists come together to paint over massive concrete ‘canvases’ around the city.
Communicating through art is one of the formats used to express things that cannot be otherwise articulated. Through works of visual art, things that are ‘unspoken’ can be said out loud and artists can hold stances or simply offer something that is unique and different from our day-to-day routines.
“MurAL Fest was born out of the need and goodwill to give Tirana an exhibition in open air,” said Henril Cule, director of the Agency of Décor.
Today, the roads of Tirana are offering this chance, because, in as little as 3 years, the art of murals has been gaining momentum and is even being more accepted by older citizens, who in the past would often be unwelcoming of this new art form.
“One of the symbols of MurAL Fest is the work of German artist, Case Maclaim, close to the Barrikada Road, titled ‘Mother’s Care’, and many other works can be found at the ‘Komuna e Parisit’ borough and all over the city,” added Cule.
A central motive in this year’s artworks continues to be the ‘woman’ figure, who is showcased in works across the city center as well as less developed suburbs.
This third edition, which will stay open until September 30th includes artists from Indonesia, Venezuela, Spain, Italy and Greece.
