Away from the noise of the city, in the midst of nature and clean air. Many Albanians and foreign visitors have chosen the village Brataj, as their next destination. The Venetian bridge that can be found here, has been declared a monument of national heritage and is now swiftly becoming a part of many of our country’s tourist guides.

Emigrants returning to their homeland have brought with them many developments and investments that are helping to boost tourism in the area.

“I’m from Brataj and I’ve been living in Italy for the past 12 years. I spend almost all of my holidays here. I believe that one day, I might do something related to tourism in this village,” said someone currently visiting Brataj.

“I’ve come from the US. I’ve been living and working there for the past 5 years but I’m from Brataj. I always spend my holidays in Brataj.  You can see what the climate is like here. I would really like to come back, but now is not the right time for me,” said another citizen.

Coming to the bridge of Brataj, takes only a few minutes from the center of the village, but the road is still presenting several issues.

“The Bridge of Brataj is the largest of its kind in the whole country and one of the largest in the Balkans. We need a cobblestone road that takes visitors to the bridge. Waves of visitors come here every season, you can barely find a spot to park, but more needs to be done,” said Nazer Kongjini, a retired history professor.

Around 48 km from the city of Vlora, the bridge of Brataj dates back to the 16th century. It connects both sides of the river Shushice and the old road of Caravans with the one in Rreza.
