The two citizens shot on Wednesday evening in Peja, one of them the candidate of the Democratic Party of Kosovo at the municipal elections, Astrit Ademaj, did not have any criminal past, confirmed for Euronews Albania the spokesperson of Peja’s Prosecution Office.
He also added that several weapons have been found on the scene and the Prosecution is due to hold a press conference on Thursday to release more information.
Astrit Ademaj, the official candidate of PDK for the municipality of Peja was shot on Wednesday evening. Another person that was with Ademaj at the time was also shot. He has been identified as Blerand Kadriaj and is a former party candidate for Deçan.
Ademaj’s brother was also shot and taken to hospital but is believed to have survived the shooting.
In a statement released to the media on Facebook, the Democratic Party of Kosovo said that they are shocked and expressed their condolences to the family of the two victims.
“The Democratic Party of Kosovo is appalled from the tragic news of the double murder in Peja, of our municipal candidate in Peja Astrit Ademaj and Blerand Kadrijaj, former candidate for the municipality of Deçan in 2017. We express our deepest condolences to their families. We pray that they find the strength to face their terrible loss”, said PDK in its official statement.
German MEP and EP Standing Rapporteur for Kosovo Viola von Cramon condemned the event and urged law enforcement authorities to solve the case with utmost urgency.
The law enforcement institutions have to solve this murder case with the utmost seriousness and urgency.

Municipal elections are due on October 17.
