Serbia will be the first country in Europe to produce Sinopharm, China’s COVID-19 vaccine.
By April, the plant will produce 30 million doses per year, with a capacity to supply Serbia and several other countries in the region.
The foundation stone was laid by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, in a ceremony attended also by the Ambassador of China to Belgrade.
Vucic said he feels ‘proud’ that Serbia, along with partners from China and the United Emirates, will be able to solve problems of global proportions.
During the ceremony, the Chinese ambassador said that their cooperation will support the battle against the pandemic, as well as promote economic development.
In June, aided by Russian experts, Serbia rolled out the production of Sputnik V.
Chinese vaccines, including Sinopharm and Sinovac, have been approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization.
Although Sinovac has not been approved by EMA, the EU member states listed below allow travelers that are vaccinated with the Chinese jab.
