The film from Kosovo director, Kaltrina Krasniqi and Doruntina Basha’s screenplay, ‘Vera dreams of the Sea’ swept two awards during last night’s awards ceremony organized by the renowned Venice Film Festival.
The film won the “Edipo Re’ award for the feeling of inclusivity and social aspects that get treated in the storyline as well as the ‘Authors under 40’ award.
‘Vera dreams of the Sea’ is the first feature film from Kosovo that premieres at the Venice Film Festival.
It portrays a woman recounting her fight against gender inequality. ‘Summer dreams of the Sea’ is a cinematographic co-production amongst Kosovo, North Macedonia and Albania.
The French film about illegal abortion ‘Happening’ was the star of the show, taking the Golden Lion award.
The 78th edition of the oldest film festival in the world ended with the gala night dedicated to all the starts of the participating films.
The silver lion this year went to Paolo Sorrentino’s semi-autobiographical ‘God’s Hand’.
The best director award went to ‘Power of the Dog’ by Jane Campion.
Best actress award went to Penelope Cruz, for her role as a new mother in “Parallel Mothers”.
The awards ceremony ended the first great film festival this fall season, which has gotten a great reception despite concerns related to the pandemic.
