Albania and Spain have signed a treaty paving the way to the extradition of citizens convicted of various felonies.

Justice Minister Ulsi Manja said that the treaty serves also to prove that there is more trust between judicial authorities in both countries.

“This agreement is a sign of a strong trust, between judicial authorities from our two countries”, the justice minister said.

According to Manja, the agreement aims to ‘increase cooperation’ and ‘improve respective institutions’, which carry out the extradition of dangerous criminal elements living in Albania or Spain.

He emphasized that the agreement also conveys a clear message to the underworld.

‘This is a clear signal conveyed to the crime world about our relations with the Kingdom of Spain in the criminal field’, tweeted Manja.

The Albanian and Spanish police carried out a major drug bust in September which led to the arrest of 107 people involved in narcotrafficking. Reportedly, the majority of the arrested were Albanian nationals.
