In the new budget proposed by president Joe Biden, the United States made a decision to accord Kosovo around €200 million euros for the construction of a new natural gas infrastructure.
This would give Kosovo the opportunity to use natural gas as a temporary burning fuel until it can be possible for them to start using hydrogen.
The cost of the project that could reach around €600 million euros, is one of the main reasons why it was refused by the government of Kosovo. However, a few days ago, while giving a response for the Voice of America (VOA), a spokesperson for the US embassy in Kosovo said that a good part of the financing would be made with funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BERZH) as well as the Framework of Investments for the Western Balkans.
The US is looking to create a sustainable energetic market between countries in the region.
The energetic map includes the interconnector that links Greece with Bulgaria, which will also distribute gas from Bulgaria to North Macedonia.
North Macedonia will be involved in the construction of the liquid natural gas terminal, in the vicinity of the Greek city of Alexandropoulos.
The cost needed to link North Macedonia with the gas pipeline in Alexandropoulos will be around €55 million euros, of which €13 million in irrevocable funding was secured through EU funds.
In July, North Macedonia and Greece signed an agreement for the construction of this pipeline linking both countries, in Athens.
