The Conference of the Chairman, the body that regulates the Assembly’s and its respective committees’ agenda, decided to accept a proposal of the Socialist Party, a request that was formally made by the Democrats first, to hold parliamentary committee meetings in person.
As a result, lawmakers must be vaccinated, or present a PCR test, to participate in the meeting.
A few weeks ago, the ruling majority decided that committee meetings should be held online, citing security reasons in line with pandemic measures.
However, the decision was met by a strong rejection from the opposition, claiming that it would harm the transparency of the process and it is ‘unconstitutional’.
Later during the day, the Conference of the Chairman postponed the establishment of three inquiry committees sought by the Democratic Party, namely on the electoral process, incinerators, and the ‘Beccheti trial’.
The names proposed by the Democratic Party as members of the inquiry commission tasked to probe into irregularities allegedly incurred during the general polls are: Enkelejd Alibeaj, Gazment Bardhi, Oerd Bylykbashi, Ferdinand Xhaferri, Sorina Koti, Ervin Salianji, and Kreshnik Çollaku.
