Lawmakers voted unanimously for the purchase of 500,760 Pfizer vaccine doses during a meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Labor, Social Affairs, and Health.
Health minister Ogerta Manastirliu declared that the decision will pave the way to receiving the batch by December, adding that the government is currently under negotiations to receive a total of 5 million vaccines by the end of 2022.
“We’ve secured over 2 million vaccine doses, by the end of the year we will reach 3 million doses, and 5 million until next year”, said the Albanian health minister.
She also explained that the vaccines will serve to inoculate to cover the adult population or booster doses.
Manastirliu said that $30 million will go into the purchase of the vaccines.
In addition, COVAX is set to deliver around 400,000 jabs by the end of the year.
Albania has administered 1,764,714 vaccine doses, of which more than 811,760 citizens have been fully jabbed.
