Chief of Police announces official resignation, who is Ardi Veliu?

The Director-General of the Albanian Police, Ardi Veliu, has officially resigned from his duties as Chief of Police. Ardi Veliu was entrusted with this important office on February 5, 2018, following the dismissal of Haki Cakos as Chief Director.

PM Edi Rama posted Ardi Veliu’s resignation form on his social media, while thanking him for his valued contribution thus far, at the head of the State Police. Rama also wrote that Veliu, still has a lot to give his country, through other administrative duties.

“With my highest consideration for the honesty, professionalism and special dedication of the Director-General of the Albanian State Police, Ardi Veliu and my conviction that he still has a lot to give his country, through other tasks, I thank him from the heart for his valued contribution,” – wrote Rama.

In his resignation paper, addressed to PM Rama, Veliu stated that this decision came after a “personal need to dedicate more time to his family”.

Who is Ardi Veliu?

In 1993, Ardi Veliu graduated from the Military Academy ‘Skenderbej’ in Tirana, Albania. After, he continued his studies at the Police Academy in Tirana, and in 1998, he graduated from the Police Academy of Ankara, in Turkey.

Along with these qualifications, Veliu completed another degree in business management in Vlora, from 2003-2007. In addition to this, he also has a degree in Law.

During his career, he has held a series of important positions of power like Chief of the Public Order Sector in Vlore; Chief of the Durres Police Department; Deputy Director of the Security Department at the Police Directory of Tirana; Director of the Traffic Police at the Directory of State Police and finally the Director of the Local Justice Department at the Police Department of Tirana.
