The Democratic Party has reacted following Ardi Veliu’s public resignation from his duties as Chief of Police.

According to their statement, starting from today, the ranks of the police force will have ‘minus one bandit’ amongst themselves. In addition, DP claimed that Veliu was coerced into resigning from office, even though the prime minister declared he had tried to convince him not to.

DP’s general secretary, Gazment Bardhi wrote on Facebook that the former chief of police has always been in the service of ‘criminal groups and certain units of the global drug trafficking network’.

The Democratic Party also argued that Ardi Veliu’s parting won’t improve the situation as long as the prime minister remains being the ‘main ally of organized crime groups’.

According to DP, the fight against organized crime can’t be achieved without banishing Edi Rama as the country’s prime minister.

“As long as Edi Rama is still prime minister, there will never be a serious war against crime. Honest cops will continue to feel betrayed and demotivated, and serious criminal events will continue to traumatize our cities,” – wrote Bardhi on his social media network.
