The leader of the Democratic Lulzim Basha was caught in a debate with health minister Ogerta Manastirliu over the number of COVID-19 confirmed deaths.
“Citizens know now that they lied about economic assistance, lied about reimbursing COVID-19 patients, lied about abusive tenders during the pandemic, but above all, they lied about the number of lives lost”, said Basha.
The head of the DP said that proof of his argument is an EU Commission report, which lists Albania with the highest number of excess deaths in Europe during 2020.
The health minister dismissed the accusations.
“I don’t understand why you insist with such pleasure on the death rhetoric. Empty accusations cannot be facts, just like figures cannot be opinions”, said Ogerta Manastirliu.
The official death toll in Albania is 2,734, while the overall case count is more than 173,190.
