As we approach the winter season, the Government is wary of the oncoming energy crisis, which has prompted politicians to come up with possible scenarios that could help us overcome it. Unlike the first trimester of 2021, when the Drin cascade was overflowing, today, the water is sitting at a minimal level, even when compared to the same period, last year.

The government has announced that they’ve set up a special team that is tasked with managing the effects of the financial losses from the state budget, while also promising that they will protect the most vulnerable groups of society.

The rise in the price of energy in the stock market is also penalizing us. In the latest energy auction, OSHEE spent €13 million euros, by buying energy at the record price of €233 euros per megawatt.

In the past 5 years, the average price for energy was been in-between €20 and 60 euros.

The latest market reports for the past 5 years have shown that our country is unable to bring in profits, mostly due to the fact that it’s buying at a much higher price than it’s selling.

In fact, even back in 2018, when Albania reported a surplus of energy, the deficit ended up being a whopping €10 million euros.

Our biggest partner when it comes to energy trading is Serbia, followed by Slovenia, Greece and the Czech Republic.
