The Socialist Movement for Integration is calling on SPAK to probe into the reasons behind the energy crisis.

“KESH decides to export energy with a price varying from €20-€30, while in the stock market amounts to €130. KESH is selling energy cheaper and does not deliver that to domestic market needs”, claimed SMI spokesperson Endrit Braimllari.

KESH is an abbreviation of Albanian Power Corporation and is the largest electricity-producing company in the country.

According to the opposition party this is a dubious activity which calls for an inquiry from SPAK as they claim that behind what the government is considering a crisis stands a “financial collapse of this institution” as a result of “company’s greed to steal from the Albanian people”.

Prime Minister Edi Rama declared a state emergency over energy, to remain in force until April, adding that the government has compiled a plan to help the most vulnerable.

More details on the government plan are set to be announced on Saturday at 3 PM.
