Albanians don’t believe in the patrons, which turned into one of the hottest political topics during the last parliamentary elections held on April 25.

Euronews Albania and MRB asked citizens how much do they trust institutions or various groupings in the country, and the least credible were the patrons.

These findings were detected from respondents on both sides, that is Socialist voters (74.5%), as well as Democrats (81.8%).

The debate on the patrons rose after a media outlet published a database containing personal data from more than 910,000 voters in Tirana.

Patrons were tasked to provide information on voter tendency, in addition to other personal and confidential data, in a serious privacy breach.

Some hundred citizens from Tirana, represented by the youth organization “Dare”, but also the Democratic Party, took the Socialist Party to SPAK over illicit possession of personal data intended for political reasons, during the election campaign.

SPAK ruled that the publication of the data did not constitute a criminal offense, but is currently investigating counts of unauthorized computer access.
