On Sunday, North Macedonia will hold the first round of local elections, for 80 new municipal representatives.

There are 303 candidates for mayor and 567 municipal councilors in the race. A candidate is required to win at least 50% of the votes.

If none of the candidates passes the necessary threshold, a second round is due to take place in the respective municipality, bringing face to face the two candidates that have received the majority of the votes. The second round is set for October 31.
