The new 2021-2022 academic year began today for all university students in the country, after more than a year of them attending online classes.

Students and professors will be returning to the auditoriums on the condition that they provide one of the following: a vaccination certificate, an authorization that shows they’ve received their first anti-COVID shot, or a negative PCR test.

Despite continuous calls to raise awareness amongst younger citizens and get them to vaccinate, not everyone seems convinced of its efficacy, even though they are aware that this may cost them their academic year. They are hoping that the Ministry of Health will revise the regulation that currently maintains that everyone has to be vaccinated in order to attend the classrooms.

Euronews Albania has learned that vaccination centers set up in school premises will stay open through the remainder of the first week of the new academic year.

Institutions of secondary education have notified students that they won’t be allowed in university premises if they don’t show their vaccination certificate, a negative PCR test or an authorization issued by their family doctor that proves that their health record prevents them from getting the COVID vaccine.
