Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama asserted that the country is prepared to confront the energy crisis during his interview on Now with Erla Mehilli.
Two weeks after proclaiming a state of emergency, PM Rama maintained that “the first duty of a prime minister is to share with his people not only the good news but also the bad”.
Asked by Mehilli on why he opted for a strategy that could potentially create panic among the public, PM Rama responded that it was mainly to increase awareness over what he called “a global, not just a local crisis”.
Responding to other allegations that the government has been selling energy at a much lower price than the market, PM Rama dismissed the claims and explained that Albania mainly sells energy during wet weather, when demand is also lower.
In addition, he pointed out that it is the Energy Regulator Agency that deals with the price-fixing, while the government acts as a shield for households and small enterprises.
“We do not get to decide that, it is the Energy Regular that puts the price, we simply act as shields”, said the Albanian prime minister.
