Albania’s former prosecutor-general is determined to pursue his battle with justice to dodge a two-year prison sentence, while his whereabouts are still unknown.

His attorney appealed the First Instance Court’s verdict on Monday, requesting to drop prison time based on the argument that it would lead to “grave health consequences” for his client.

Now it will be up to the appeal of the Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO), which after setting up a date, decide whether to reinstate the verdict of the First Instance Court, which overturned Llalla’s request, or accept his attorney’s appeal and drop the sentence.

Ten days ago, after the Albanian State Police searched his residence but could not find him, SPAK sent his name to Interpol and issued an international arrest warrant.

Adriatik Llalla was convicted for not being able to justify his wealth on three separate occasions, including unjustified expenses estimated at $7,400 for giving birth to his son in the US, expenditures to build the third floor in his house, as well as education of his daughter in Germany.
