The head of the EU Delegation to Albania, ambassador Luigi Soreca, declared that the European Commission’s report reinstated that Albania has fulfilled all the conditions required.
The Ambassador underlined that the first Inter-Governmental Conference must take place without further delay.
“The annual report that we presented today is based on the new methodology. It is a fair assessment of the situation in Albania in regards to its path to the EU since 2020. Credits were given to Albania where needed and also it emphasized those areas where progress has been insufficient and that require more attention”, said the EU Ambassador.
“The report notes that despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Albania has been committed to the EU-related reforms and achieved tangible results”, he added.
The EU Commission’s annual report on the 2021 Enlargement Policy maintained an overall positive approach in terms of Albania’s progress in several areas related to the country’s EU path.
“EU should keep its word on negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia”
The EU Ambassador to Tirana Luigi Soreca said for Euronews Albania that now it is “EU’s turn to deliver” on its promises for Albania and North Macedonia, as all criteria have been fulfilled.
“Albania has shown and given results, now it is time for the EU to keep its word. Members states need to read the report and find the strong point in order to overcome the bilateral issue and allow Albania and North Macedonia to sit on that table that they deserve because they have achieved what was asked from them”, said Ambassador Soreca.
