The first meeting of a working group between experts from Kosovo and Serbia took place on Thursday in Brussels.

The EU Special Envoy for the Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak outlined his expectations that a concrete solution might be on the way in the upcoming 6 months over the dispute on license plates which heightened tensions between the two countries.

The decision to establish a working group to find a solution over the license plates row came as a result of negotiations in Brussels mediated by the EU Special Envoy Miroslav Lajcak.

Kosovo and Serbia agreed on September 30 in Brussels to an interim solution that would see cars place a sticker to cover national symbols on their respective license plates.

Tensions rose in Kosovo’s north heightened after September 20, when the government imposed reciprocity on cars with Serbian license plates entering its territory, a procedure that had been applied on the Serbian side for over 10 years.
