More than half of the 250 nurse practitioners who have recently graduated from the Public Health Faculty at the University of Vlora plan on leaving the country, to find better-paying jobs abroad.

Students tell Euronews Albania that they chose this degree because they like it but also because they look at it as a way to help them have a better chance at finding a job abroad, especially since in the past 5 years, Germany has been taking in more medical professionals.

“When I graduate, I will go abroad, in Germany, where the working conditions are better and so are the salaries,” – said one of the students.

“It’s a university program I’ve always liked but it is also a degree that holds great value abroad. I’m thinking of going to Germany. Better salaries are the main reason,” – said another.

Professor, Ervis Alushi said that these kinds of programs at the Public Health Faculty in Vlora, offer many opportunities as they are linked to liaison programs and workplaces in the EU.

This new academic year, the Public Health faculty is the only program at the University of Vlora, where quotas were filled up since the very first round, whereas for the past 5 years, the number of students applying and those leaving to Germany after graduation has been on a consistent rise.
