The US embassy in Zagreb announced that as of October 23, all Croatian citizens will be able to travel to US soil visa-free.

“That day has come! Congratulations to Croatia for officially joining the Visa Exemption Program,” – wrote the US ambassador to Croatia on an official social media post.

The decision of the Electronic System of Travel Authorization (ESTA) applies to all Croatian citizens that wish to travel to the US for purposes of business or leisure, for a period no longer than 90 days.

In order for a country to become part of this program, they have to fulfill several criteria in the fields of anti-terror, law enforcement, migration, document safety and border management, says the declaration.

Travel authorizations issued to citizens by the ESTA program are usually valid for up to 2 years. Travelers that have been issued visa types B1/B2 can now use them to travel to the US.

The United States has yet to lift visa requirements for travelers of three EU member states – Rumania, Bulgaria and Cyprus.
