For more than a week now, the Central Elections Committee (CEC) has begun the process of recounting the ballots from more than 500 voting centers, in order to confirm the validity and possible irregularities that might have taken place during April 25th’s general elections.
As a result, the process has confirmed so far, that both of our country’s main political subjects – the Socialist and Democratic parties – were granted false additional votes during the counting process.
In 323 of the voting centers verified thus far, it seems that the Democratic Party was given 84 extra votes, whereas the Socialist Party, an additional 57 votes.
The Social-Democratic Party (PSD) and the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) are both next in line, with 8 and 9 votes each.
During the verification process, other irregularities have been noticed that have unfortunately altered the citizens’ will when it comes to the MPs, they gave their vote to.
In DP’s lists, Ardian Zeneli from Elbasan was the candidate, whose votes were removed the most. On the other hand, the candidate who was granted the most extra votes, was Lefter Geshtenja, also from Elbasan and third on the list.
In SP’s lists, the candidate who had the highest number of votes removed from him was Fatmir Xhafaj, whereas Eduard Shalsi had the most votes added to his final result.
The overall number of invalid ballots has also seen a rise, as another 156 invalid votes were identified after the 323 ballot boxes, verified so far.
This process isn’t going to affect the final result of the April 25 elections, officially declared back in July.
