The ruling majority and the opposition reached a consensus on establishing an inquiry commission tasked to probe into incinerators. After disputes on how the investigation will be carried out, the two sides have now come to terms.
The commission will oversee the implementation of laws on how incinerators are built, economic repercussions in the budget, as well as potential side effects on fair competition.
Also, the body is expected to assess the need to reproach the legislation on concessions and the environment, in compliance with EU directives and best practices.
“This investigation will aim to reveal institutional responsibilities, guarantee transparency, protect fair competition and market rules, as well as ensure the citizens’ rights to a clean environment”, the memo read.
In conclusion, the inquiry commission will submit its final report to the Assembly, which will also include recommendations on institutional responsibilities, legal agreements, amends, and corrections, in addition to notifying the prosecution when a probe is required.
