Education of youth was the topic that brought face-to-face deputy minister of finances Besart Kadia and Democrat MP Belind Kellici.

Kellici said that high fees have left thousands of students out of the education system, therefore one of DP’s strategies presented during the election campaign, was zero education fees and cutting the tariff by half for particular categories.

According to him, it is “shameful” that the eight-point accord reached during the 2018 students protest was not materialized.

Another concern raised by the Democrat MP was “brain drain” mainly in the midst of the middle class which is considered as the main engine of the economy.

The deputy minister of finances said that the point is to provide quality in the education sector, and not make it free. He also emphasized that scientific research is missing in both private and public education institutions.

“The discussion is not about having zero tariffs. Albanian enterprises spend too little on scientific research. The discussion on free education or not doesn’t do any good to quality”, Kadia said.
