Price hikes for food items have alarmed citizens across Kosovo, who are voicing their concerns regarding their hardships and struggles to make it by, due to low wages and a lack of employment.

The rise in prices is affecting the majority of sales sectors and citizens are asking authorities to take the necessary measures.

Vendors at the produce market in Prishtina say that the rise of prices is being felt by citizens everywhere.

“Prices are going up by the day. People are out of jobs; they live on social assistance. Market prices have been rising slowly but surely. This isn’t up to us but up to the government and the big guys that don’t even feel the need to come and check out what is really happening with prices,”- said one of the market vendors.

Another citizen expressed his concern that senior citizens that rely on their minimal retirement benefits are the ones that are prone to feel this the most.

On the other hand, PM Albin Kurti has declared that these kinds of warnings about a rise in prices are bad omens and have a negative effect on citizens.

The minimum wage in Kosovo is currently 135 euros for those under 35 and 170 euros for those over 35.
