Kosovo is expecting positive developments when it comes to visa liberalization. The government’s spokesperson, Perparim Kryeziu declared for local media KosovaPress reiterated that Prishtina has “fulfilled all criteria” required to lift the visa regime.

Kryeziu also took a jab at previous administrations, stating that Kurti’s government will not commit the same mistakes.

“This government cannot do the same mistakes that previous governments have done when speaking on behalf of the EU. This is not Kosovo’s decision, although we work hard and vow to address any form of hesitation that a state might have in the most timely and appropriate manner”, he concluded.

But European integration experts suggest that a viable opportunity to lift visas might come in the first half of 2022, a time when France is set to take over EU’s rotating presidency, also largely considered one of the skeptic countries.

Kosovo has fulfilled all conditions to have its visa removed since 2018.

However, several countries, including France, the Netherlands and Denmark have been negligent in giving their approval and allowing Kosovar citizens free movement in the Schengen area.
