Shpetim Pollozhani, a political analyst from North Macedonia, told Euronews Albania that the opposition has not changed its “anti-Albanian stance”, although oftentimes it has been raised to its feet with the help of the ethnic Albanian parties.
“Albanian political parties helped rehabilitate VMRO even though it was raised with a sense of animosity against Albanians. Albanians are the main axis in North Macedonia, but they still haven’t understood their position. I think that this party will continue to remain in power as it has the votes and endorsement of small Albanian parties”, declared Pollozhani.
The decision of Zoran Zaev to step down as prime minister and party chair, according to the analyst, is a “rare moral act” for a Wester Balkans leader.
But he expressed some skepticism over whether Zaev will stand by his decision.
“I don’t think that this moral act will stay until the end, if he keeps his word, a prime minister coming from the majority is needed”, noted the analyst.
Asked on the Open Balkan, Pollozhani sees it as an initiative which took off with major problems since its start, hence the absence of Zoran Zaev has shattered an arm of Prime Minister Edi Rama on negotiations.
