It’s been three days since Macedonian PM Zoran Zaev, declared that he would be stepping down, but the final resignation letter still hasn’t been referred to North Macedonia’s Parliament.
According to analysts, what is happing is clearly an ‘act of calculation’ to win some time, so that the majority of votes can be ensured that would allow a co-governance between LSDM and BDI.
“I believe this is a calculated act. And every tentative to retreat his resignation would make the situation worse for Mr. Zaev and his party, his partners and coalitions. The road ahead is relatively clear-cut. LSDM has lost popularity and I believe that this makes Zaev a not-so-desirable partners in the coalition,” – said Besim Nebiu, political analyst.
In addition, journalist, Isen Saliu thinks Zaev’s prolonged silence is damaging.
“Zaev used this card once when he didn’t accept the resignation of the health minister, Venko Filipce and repeating the same thing now would be damaging for him as a politician, not only for LSDM,’ – said Saliu.
Macedonian analysts agree that future snap elections are inevitable but the way they will be held depends.
Will a new parliamentary majority from the opposition need to be formed, which will hold the elections next spring or will there need to be a technical government until then?
