This winter, along with the pandemic, we could be faced with yet another virus, the flu.
A more aggravated flu season in the middle of a pandemic could very well add to the pressure already felt by the healthcare system.
Experts maintain that vaccination continues to be the most effective way to prevent more serious complications from the flu. The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched an awareness campaign aimed at increasing vaccination amongst high-risk groups.
This year, WHO is focusing its program in Albania on vaccination against the flu, especially as it concerns older patients and the medical personnel.
The flu vaccination campaign in Albania will begin on October 23, at the Health Centre no. 10 in Tirana.
With the start of international travel, there is a heightened risk of spreading the flu, compared to last year.
“It’s very important to vaccinate our health staff because if they are infected, they can infect their patients, who are at a highly vulnerable state,” – said Gerald Rockenschaub, representative of OBS in Albania.
Both viruses, the flu and COVID-19 thrive in closed in-door spaces filled with people, which is why you need to constantly be reminded to keep these spaces well-ventilated and constantly open windows and let fresh air enter the room.
Washing your hands on a regular basis will always remain the best practice for good personal hygiene that is absolutely crucial in preventing the transmission of both diseases.
